Planning a trip to Seoul soon? In order to avoid any surprises, take note of these upcoming national holidays when making your itinerary. ● Chuseok: 9. 24(Mon) ~ 9. 26(Wed) Falling on August 15 of the lunar calendar, Chuseok is one of the two biggest traditional holidays for Korea (the other being Lunar New Year). During this holiday, Koreans will fill a table with songpyeon rice cakes, fresh seasonal fruits, and other traditional dishes as a way of remembering their ancestors. Relatives will often all gather at their hometown and pay their respects by visiting the family's ancestral graves. ● National Foundation Day: Oct 3 (Wed) This day commemorates the foundation of the ancient Korean kingdom of Gojoseon, which was established in 2333 B.C. by Korea's first king, Dangun Wanggeom. The Korean word for this holiday, gaecheonjeol, also refers to the 'opening of the heavens' that occured when Dangun's father Hwanung descended from the skies into Sindansu of Baekdusan Mountain. On this day, you may see Korean flags hoisted proudly throughout the city. ● Hangeul Day: Oct 9 (Tue) This day celebrates the growing acclaim of Korea's official alphabet Hangeul, and also commemorates the day that King Sejong proclaimed the official use of the Korean script in a document known as Hunminjeongeum. As it is a national holiday, on this day you may see Korean flags raised throughout the city. *Many stores and restaurants may be closed during these holidays, so it's a good idea to check if they will be open before you go.The One More Trip operation team will also be observing the holidays, so please note that there may be a delay in replies to inquiries. Some of the attractions listed on this site may not be available during the holidays listed above, so do check availability in advance before you make your purchase.
